Gary Grant Beedy, 69, of Pullman passed away peacefully on October 29, 2013 at Pullman Regional Hospital after a valiant battle with Multiple Myeloma. Memorial services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday November 9, 2013 at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman and vault inurnment will follow at the Pullman Cemetery. A reception in Gary's honor will be held after the inurnment at Station #1 of Whitman County Fire District #12.
Gary was born on March 20, 1944 in Hastings, Minnesota but he and his mother moved to Rosalia, Washington, a place where he would grow up and call his home. Through lots of hard work, Gary graduated from Rosalia High School and took a job with the Rosalia Producers.
It didn't take long before he would meet the love of his life, Joan Diane Gontz, with whom he would spend more than 46 wonderful years deeply in love. The couple married in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho on May 27, 1967 and were later blessed with two beautiful daughters, Mindi Ann and Ami Marie.
After moving to Spokane in 1968, Gary worked for the local Napa Distribution Center for almost 10 years but was ambitious enough to have aspirations for owning his own parts store. It didn't take long before his determination, persistence and hard work ethic paid off and he acquired the Napa Auto Parts store in Pullman, aptly naming it Beedy Auto Parts. For more than 30 years Gary and Joan worked hard to live up to the Beedy name and did so with success until their retirement in 2008.
Gary always had the knack for fixing things and it was his love and his passion. He absolutely loved to work with his hands, often times teaching himself the valuable tricks of the trade. No matter what he did, people found themselves naturally drawn towards him. His friendly nature and magnetic personality held true no matter who he was talking to and it didn't take long before he made a friend out of a complete stranger.
Gary had a great sense of humor and mastered the art of making people laugh through his jokes. But it was family that meant everything to him and every one of his five grandchildren felt his abundance of love and was touched by his gentle hands.
In his free time Gary had a deeply rooted enthusiasm for anything with a motor in it. This enthusiasm inspired him to build his 1928 Ford Model A street rod from the frame up and attend many car shows with his best friend Bud Bower.
Gary is survived by his wife Joan at the family farm near Palouse; daughters Mindi (Jeff) Mims and Ami (Lyle) Libey; grandchildren Kyle, Brandon and Emily Libey and Noelle and Katie Mims; siblings Lois (Clint) Carter; Sharon (Ken) Rhode; Robert (Darlene) Beedy; Carol (Jay) Holling; Wendy Willey; Jackie (Don) McClure and his best friend Bud (Sandy) Bower. He was preceded in death by his mother Dora and step-father Morris Lindgren as well as sisters Jean Claussen and Sandy Kruse.
Memorial contributions in Gary's honor are suggested to Whitman County Fire District #12 or to the Whitman County Humane Society.
