GEORGE W. LAUGHTON, 78, of Steptoe, WA passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at his Steptoe home. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. No public services are planned. George was born April 17, 1935 in Chinook, Montana and raised living on the family farm, where he attended country school. When George was 17 he moved to Clarkston, WA with his mother and grandparents. That is where George met the love of his life, Louise Brown and they were married on Nov. 12, 1954. In 1965 George moved his family to Albion, WA to take a position for the McGregor Company in Pullman, WA. George & Louise moved to Colfax, WA in 1977 and George continued to work for the McGregor Company as both a mechanic and service man. To many farmers of Whitman County, George was known as the man who wore his hat with the bill up. George retired from the McGregor Company after a career that spanned some 30 years. In 1993, George and Louise moved to Steptoe, WA where they have made their home. George was a devoted husband and father who so loved his wife and daughters. He always stayed active in the girl's lives and taught them much from how to fish, to making sure they could fix a flat and change the oil in their cars. George enjoyed the outdoors and all that it offered. Among those things he enjoyed were camping, hunting, fishing, motorcycles and ATV's. He especially was happy that his daughters loved riding motorcycles as well. George was a wonderful mechanic who really could fix just about anything. George is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years Louise at the family home in Steptoe; his two daughters Lorraine(Dan) Brannan of Pullman; Rosa (Rich) McGuire of Spokane; three grandchildren Pam Rogers, Michael Shain McGuire & Danyle McGuire; his five great grandchildren; his brother & sister-in-law's and his dog Monica.
