IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerald "Jerry"
R. Davis
March 11, 1945 – February 12, 2024
Gerald "Jerry" Robert Davis (78) of Pullman WA passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024 at Pullman Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Jerry was born on March 11, 1945 in Toppenish WA to Herbert and Elizabeth Davis.
After graduating from Mabton High School (Mabton WA) in 1963 and Perry Technical Institute (Yakima WA) in 1965 he went to work for Anderson Motors as an auto mechanic. In 1967 he was drafted and, after basic training at Ft. Lewis, served as a medic in Thailand during the Vietnam War. In 1969 he returned home and married Barbara Holloway, living in Richland WA and working for Sperry New Holland before moving back to Bickleton to farm in 1974. Jerry was involved in many aspects of the Bickleton community over the next 45 years from driving bus for the school to volunteering at the Bickleton Carousel Museum. He was very involved in the Bickleton Evangelical Community Church where he served as Elder and Trustee as well as "lead audio technician" ….a position that he took great pride in. He also served as a volunteer firefighter and a commissioner for Yakima County Fire District #7.
In his later years, nerve issues limited the use of Jerry's legs but that did not slow him down. When a cane would no longer do the trick he got a power chair, which opened the world back up to him. The aisles of Home Depot and Walmart were his racetrack and keeping up with him was a chore for Barbara. The limited mobility did, however, mean that operating a tractor wouldn't be possible so in 2004 he put the farm in CRP and "watched the grass grow."
In 2017 Jerry and Barbara decided to purchase a "vacation home" in Pullman WA to be closer to their grandkids. The intent was to split time between Bickleton and Pullman but it quickly became apparent that wasn't practical, so they settled into their new home, spending time enjoying the simple things like driving across town for a Dairy Queen sundae after dinner (something that would've taken a couple hours when living on the farm). He enjoyed following the grandkids to their different sporting events and visiting the local Harbor Freight to look at tools. Jerry had a lifelong passion for old cars and he enjoyed going to car shows, even getting his power chair fenders pinstriped at a local show to make his "hot rod" stand out.
Jerry is survived by his wife Barbara, son Aaron (Jennifer) Davis, sister Marilyn (Greg) Kiser and grandchildren Ethan, Laura, Jillian, Payton and Parker. He is preceded in death by his son Ryan (Harmony) Davis. The family suggests memorial donations to Bickleton Evangelical Community Church. Jerry will be laid to rest in Bickleton Cemetery at a later date. No public services are planned for this time.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16
