Gordon
Dec 3, 1941 — Jun 23, 2026
Gerda Helene Gordon nee Halbreich, 84, longtime resident of Palm Springs, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, in Pullman, Washington. Born on December 3, 1941 as her parents were fleeing the Nazis, Gerda endured the hardships of growing up during the Holocaust. She received her early education in Red Cross refugee camps in Berlin before immigrating to the United States at age 11, where she learned English and attended school in Chicago and Skokie, Illinois. A longtime resident of Palm Springs, California, Gerda devoted herself to caring for her parents, Henry and Nettie Halbreich, her husband, Howard and her sister, Lillie Ruben, with unwavering tenderness. She was also a dedicated volunteer at her children’s schools and an active member of the Holocaust Survivors group. Gerda shared a rich life with her beloved husband, Howard Gordon. Together, they enjoyed playing bridge and exploring the world on their custom tandem bicycle, traveling across the United States, Canada, France, and beyond. They cherished their time in Hawaii, particularly on the island of Kauai, and attended kite festivals around the globe. Gerda found joy in reading, collecting seashells and music boxes, and playing the piano. She was deeply involved with her family and adored spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Renee Van Hoy (Dave), son Jeff Gordon (Carolyn), grandchildren Devin, Emma, Alex (Jenny), and great-grandchildren Jack, Logan, and Blake. Gerda was predeceased by her parents Henry and Nettie Halbreich, her husband Howard Gordon, and her sister Lillie Ruben. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in Pullman, Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Angel View or dementia research in Gerda’s memory. Gerda’s legacy of resilience and love will forever be cherished by those who knew her.
