February 21, 1935 – November 28, 2018
Gladys passed away November 28, 2018 in Vancouver, Washington of kidney disease. Gladys was born in Ewan, Washington on February 21, 1935 to Beryl Mace and Maybelle (Dettman) Lynch. She grew up and attended school in the Ewan/St.John area. She married Douglas Dale Bafus on January 22, 1952. They lived and worked in Connell until 1955 when they moved to Lacrosse, where they raised their family. Gladys worked at the Post Office for 29 years and retired as the Postmaster in 1992. Gladys was very active in her community. She was a Boy Scout leader, Room Mother, Race Director for the Lacrosse Country Run, Member of the School Board, the Methodist church and was a longtime member of the Lacrosse Sewing Club. She loved collecting stamps and coins. She spent years working on her family genealogy and loved telling stories of her family and growing up in a small town.
Kids were her passion and everyone was family to her. Her family was always her priority and being Grammie was her greatest blessing. She will be remembered for her great laugh and her beautiful smile.
Retirement found Gladys and Douglas traveling and spending time with grandchildren. Douglas passed away in 2000 and in 2013 Gladys moved to Vancouver to provide daycare for her Great Grandchildren. She became a member of the Orchards United Methodist Church and loved being part of its loving congregation. She continued to be active with her family and friends and was part of 2 Bunko groups.
Gladys is survived by her son, James & Alice Bafus, Lacrosse, daughter Janis (Suzie) & Richard Wuitschick, Vancouver. Grandchildren; Brandon Bafus, Joshua Bafus, Betsy Clayton, Karmen Ametu, Katie Dehler, Josh St. John, Ryan St. John and Donna Prichard. Brothers, Beryl Lynch, St. John and Royce Lynch, Cheney. One sister, Carolyn Hanson, Ohio. 15 Great Grandchildren: Ellie, Chase, Douglas, Isabelle, Taylor, Mason, Olivia, Corbin, Damian, Jozlyn, Reese, James, Jayden, Grace, Presley, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Douglas, her daughter, Kristi Ann, Sisters; Dolores Hilliard, Bonnie Johnstone. Brothers Boyd Lynch and Alan Lynch.
A memorial service was held December 8, 2018 at Orchards United Methodist Church. A graveside service and internment will be held Saturday, June29, 2019 in St. John, Washington at 10:00 am.
Her family would like to thank Evergreen Memorial Gardens, OUMC and Pastor Christopher, Peacehealth, Fresenius Kidney, Creekside Senior Living and Ray Hickey Hospice for their love and care for our Grammie.
