Grace Edith Mader Schmick

Born October 8, 1921.  Died. January 30, 2023

She was born in Shanghai China to Herman and Mable Mader who were serving there as missionaries.  The family came home to the Colfax, WA area in late 1925 and because of political unrest did not return to China.

Grace grew up on a farm in the Clear Creek area, attended Clear Creek one room school and Colfax High School graduating in 1938.  She worked at the telephone office and at St Ignatius Hospital.  She met Herb Schmick at a church youth group at the Full Gospel Assembly of God church.  They were married January 2, 1942.

They farmed for 46 years in the Clear Creek area.  Grace was a member and took an active part in the Besse Mechling Club, Christian's women's club, Gideon's Auxiliary, Aglow and in her local church.  She enjoyed painting, gardening, knitting, and sewing.  She and Herb traveled extensively to many parts of the world.

In 1995, they moved to Hill Ray in Colfax and in 2001 due to Herb's illness to Tacoma WA

Herb died in July of 2003 after 61 years of marriage, Grace is survived by 4 children Larry (Pat), David (Mary), Rosemary (Jim) and Jon (Shirley), 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren,  and a sister Evelyn Chambers.

She is preceded in death by her husband Herb, a great granddaughter Tia Lynn Schmick and her sister Pearl Swartz. A family graveside service was Wednesday in the Colfax Cemetery where she was laid to rest next to her husband. On-line guest book is at www.corbeillfuneralhomes.com
