Guy Clayton Parkman, longtime Pullman science teacher, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at his home in Albion. He was 84. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 30 th , at 1:00 p.m. at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Viewing will be for two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Pullman City Cemetery. Guy was born May 22, 1934 in New Edinburg, Arkansas to William and Nora Barker Parkman. He graduated from high school in Pateros, Washington in 1952. Guy enlisted in the U.S. Army December 3, 1953 and served as a military police officer during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged November 22, 1955 and returned to the Tri-Cities, Washington area. He attended Columbia Basin Junior College in Pasco where he met Betty Jane Anderson on campus. They married September 7, 1957 in Benton City, Washington. Guy and Betty moved to Pullman to attend Washington State University where he completed his Bachelor's Degree in 1960 and later his Master's Degree in 1965. Guy began teaching in the Pullman School District in 1961 and was a well-known science and biology teacher for the next thirty years. He was a Pullman high school football coach from 1963-1989 and he coached baseball for 19 years, both varsity and junior varsity. Guy and Betty moved to Albion in 1962 and raised their family there where they had "a little more room". Guy loved gardening and the outdoors and he always raised a huge tomato garden and "thousands" of iris flowers. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting in younger years, and camping. Later in life he loved spending time with his grandchildren, he liked watching sports, and always had a soft spot in his heart for animals. Guy retired from teaching in June 1991 after thirty years in the classroom. For the last 17 years they have wintered in Lake Livingston, Texas where he loved to sit on the end of the dock with a fishing pole. Guy will be missed by many in the community but especially by his wife of 61 years, Betty, at their Albion home; his 5 children, Robert W. Parkman of Olympia, WA., Linda A. Parkman, Oklahoma City, OK., David B. Parkman, Richland, WA., Daniel A. Parkman, Spokane Valley, WA., and by Susan M. Oltmer of Cheney, WA.; and by his 10 grandchildren. Guy was preceded in death by his parents and by 2 sisters, Joyce and Janice, and by his brother, Charles. The family suggests any memorial gifts for Guy be to a charity that supports youth athletic activities in our area. On-line guest book is at www.kimballfh.com
