Harold Herman, long time Colfax resident, passed away Wednesday October 12th,2011 at Riverview Care Center in Spokane Wa. He was 88. A graveside service will be Monday October 16th at 10:00 a.m at the Colfax Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at 11 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in Colfax. Viewing will be October 15th 2 to 4 P.M. at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Harold was born August 16th 1923 Green Hollow outside Colfax, WA to Fred and Katherine (Koch) Herman. He attended and graduated high school at the Martha Washington High School of Green Hollow. Harold attended Washington State University for a year until being drafted into the US ARMY in 1941. Following his honorable discharge, Harold returned to Colfax where he worked at Jones Truck and Implement. He married Beverly Herron in Colfax on January 2, 1949. They moved To Spokane where Harold Worked for Union Oil until returning to Colfax where he purchased a Union Oil Distributorship in 1958. He later helped start and worked for Bank of Whitman in 1977. He retired in 1994. Harold was a proud volunteer fireman for 35 years. He loved to write all types of poetry, traveling with his wife Beverley, especially around the Western States and spending time in South Lake Tahoe. He was a member of the Masonic Temple of Colfax. Harold's family was of the utmost importance in his life. Harold is survived by his daughter Julie Smith and her husband Ed of Moses Lake, WA; his son Phil Herman of Colfax; his brother Harvey Herman; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
