Harvey E Lehmitz, 90, of Pullman, died July 25, 2013 at Avalon Care Center in Pullman. He was born Dec. 24, 1922 in West Jordan, Utah to William Jr and Mary Ruth (Allmendinger) Lehmitz. He grew up on the West Jordan farm and graduated from Jordan High School. He headed to California where he hauled road oil and gasoline all over the state. After a few years he headed back to Utah to the farm. He then bought himself a Harley motorcycle.
He liked going to the movies and that is where he met the love of his life. Lorraine Steadman was working at the theater. After many dates on the bike, Harv and Lorraine where married in Midvale Ut. on Aug. 18, 1951, just after the threshing crew had finished harvest. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on Nov. 22, 1961.
They lived in West Jordan where Harv farmed during the day and worked at night at Kennecott Copper running electric shovels.
After retiring from Kennecott, they moved to Pullman, Wash., where they had bought a new farm. He loved farming and people. He loved sweets and candy, especially his wife's hand dipped chocolates. He was always telling the grandkids stories about his childhood and he would sing funny little songs that they will never forget.
He is survived by his sons Harvey K. (Tammy) Pullman, WA; Jim (Laurel) West Jordan, UT; Dave (Michelle) Moscow, ID; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 4 sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, his parents and four brothers.
Private family graveside services will be held in West Jordan, Utah at a later date and Harvey will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Lorraine. Memorial contributions in Harvey's honor are suggested to Whitman County Fire District 12.
