Harvey E. Schneidmiller, lifelong St. John farmer, passed away December 18, 2015 in Spokane. He was 90. A family graveside service will be Monday, December 28th at 11:00 am at the St. John Cemetery followed by a luncheon for the community at the St. John Community Building starting at Noon. Harvey was born in Colfax on May 31, 1925 to Henry and Anna (Geier) Schneidmiller. He grew up around St. John and graduated from high school there in 1943. Harvey was able to follow his lifelong passion and love of farming for nearly 70 years. He also served his country during the Korean Conflict. He married Dona Stophilbeen, who had moved to St. John on her first teaching assignment, in Endicott on June 18, 1955. He kept busy with the farm just west of town and Dona was home with their kids and enjoying being mom and homemaker. Harvey served on the Soil Conservation board for several years. He also enjoyed sports, following the financial markets and had great pride and love for his children and grandchildren. He liked to follow each of their activities and interests as well. Harvey's biggest joy was in spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dona, at their St. John home; his daughter, Lori (Doug) Bright of Washougal, WA., and 3 sons; Kevin (Susan) of Post Falls, ID., Craig (Louann) of Liberty Lake, WA., and Brett (Kirsten) of Spokane, WA.; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
