Memorial Services will be held Friday, July 28th, at 11:30 am at the Onecho Bible Church. Interment will be in the Dusty Cemetery.
Harvey was born March 6, 1926 on the family farm near Dusty to Henry and Katie Hoff Stueckle. He attended school at Dusty and in Colfax. Harvey learned the lessons of hard work and carried that mantra throughout his life. At an early age he had daily chores that he was responsible for such as filling the wood box, gathering the eggs and milking the cows, and of course there were plenty of animals to keep fed.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in February 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict. He graduated top of his class in the U.S. Army Blacksmith School. His job while in the Army was in service and recovery and when something broke down it was his responsibility to get it fixed. Harvey met Emma Ruby on a 4 or 5 day trip to California and after coming home they continued to phone each other and write letters. They got engaged and would marry on June 5, 1952. They lived near the Army base in Indiana in the beginning of their marriage and then returned to the farm at Dusty where he worked with his Dad and brothers. He bought a self-propelled combine and did custom harvesting for other farmers also. He and Emma started a family and kept as busy as ever. In 1958 they moved to Oakesdale and continued to farm for about 10 years. Then they moved to Colfax in 1969 and Harvey worked briefly for R&H Machine and for Bill's Welding. He started at the Grain Growers in 1971 as a maintenance man and eventually worked his way up to manager of the Steptoe seed plant. He grew the business extensively during those years and worked tirelessly at it. When they did have spare time he liked to take the boys fishing or the family would load into the car and travel to visit aunts, uncles and cousins. He always enjoyed visiting with his brothers and his sister helping them with projects. Harvey was a founding member of Micro-Ag in Steptoe and worked there full time beginning in 1983.
Harvey was active in the Country Bible Church at Dusty and served many years on the church board, and served as President of Child Evangelism for 10 years. His wife Emma passed away March 21, 1987.
Harvey married Verna Stevick Broweleit in November 1988. They lived on her farm in the Onecho area for about 10 years and then moved to Touchmark on Spokane's South Hill in 1999. They liked to travel and made several visits to the Cannon Beach area of the Oregon Coast. They were active members of the Onecho Bible Church. Never one to sit still, Harvey learned the art of cross-stitching to pass his time and made countless gifts of cross-stitch art that are treasured by many of his family. Verna has 5 children and many grandchildren that blessed the later years of Harvey's life and kept his days occupied.
He is survived by his wife, Verna Broweleit Stueckle at their Spokane home: 3 sons, Randy Stueckle of Colfax, Bob Stueckle (Leslie) of Palouse and Rick Stueckle of Seattle; 2 grandsons, Ben and Brian Stueckle both of Palouse: by Verna's 5 children, Dennis (Jan) Broweleit, Marilyn (Larry) Klock, Larry (Glenyce) Broweleit, David (Kay) Broweleit, Randy (Jennifer) Broweleit: and by 2 brothers, Rev. Norman (Carol) Stueckle of Wenatchee and Duane (Lori) Stueckle of Boise and sister-in-law Carol Stueckle of Colfax. In addition to his first wife, Emma, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Ray, Harold, Sam and Ben and by 1 sister, Vi Scott, and by his parents. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Union Gospel Mission or to Campus Crusade Jesus Film Project.
