Howard Kennedy was born in Colfax on Sept. 2, 1933 to Pearl and Hazel (Cram) Kennedy. He died at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center on May 25, 2015. A memorial service will be held on Friday May 29, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bruning Funeral Home.

Howard graduated from Colfax High School in 1952. That year he also joined the Navy and was stationed in San Diego and then in Kodiak, Alaska.

He married Sylvia May Ditsch on Oct. 17, 1954 in Lewiston, Idaho. Howard grew up near Penewawa. He worked for Colfax Ready Mix for several years before starting his career as a long-haul truck driver. He owned and operated Herron Trucking in LaCrosse until he retired.

Survivors include his wife May at their home in LaCrosse; daughter Debi (Rick) Anderson, Colfax; sons Daryl Kennedy and Damon Kennedy, both of LaCrosse; four grandsons Toby, Travis, Michael and Clint Anderson, and numerous great-grandchildren. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Opal Garcia and Marion Harris, brother Bill and grandson Brandon Anderson.
