Obituary

HOWARD M. NYGREEN, 93, of Colton, WA passed away Dec. 30, 2014 at Pullman Regional Hospital. Howard was born March 7, 1921 in Bellingham, WA to Theodore & Emily (Gwinn) Nygreen. He grew up and attended school in Bellingham, where he graduated from high school. Following high school Howard moved to Seattle and went to work in the sheet metal industry for Teeter & Harlis on the Seattle waterfront. He married Helene Russell in 1940. They had three children and later were divorced. On Sept. 19, 1953 Howard married Sybl Ann Davidson and they moved to Colton, WA taking over the family farming operation with Sybl's parents outside of Colton. They had two children. Howard farmed for some 40 years until retiring at the age of 70. He continued to live at the family home until recently when he moved to Bishop Place Retirement Community in Pullman. He loved to fish, hunt, garden and play golf as well as collecting stamps and coins. Howard was a hard working and loving husband, father and grandfather throughout his life. He was a life long Mason who served in many different capacities including being a Third Degree Mason and a member of the Shrine. He is survived by his two sons Dennis Nygreen and Keith (Kim)Nygreen all of Colton, WA; his three daughters Nancy Nygreen of Spokane; Patricia (Robert Dean) Gorthy of New York; Candace Lawson of Colton, WA; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Sybl in 2008; his parents; two brothers Paul & Glen Nygreen and a sister Ruth Cash. A private family celebration of Howard's life will take place later in 2015. Kimball Funeral Home & Crematory of Pullman, WA is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations are suggested to the Shriner's Children's Hospital or to a charity of choice.
