Irene Pearl Mason, St. John resident, passed away May 14, 2017 at Pullman Regional Hospital, one day shy of her 97th birthday. Irene was born May 15, 1920 in Lincoln, Nebraska to John Floyd and Clara Jane Stevens Mason. She the middle child of three in the family and was raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Throughout her entire life, Irene was a very loving person and enjoyed giving hugs. She never married. As a young lady, she moved to Inglewood, California and did secretarial work for several of the larger record companies in Southern California at the time. She liked jazz and swing type music and loved to dance well into her nineties. Later in life she found herself as a full-time caregiver for her grandparents and following their passing she moved to Anaheim, California. She lived in Anaheim for 26 years where she made lots of friends in the neighborhood. She was an avid reader and always enjoyed a good murder mystery. She was a member of the senior citizens club in Anaheim. About seven years ago, Irene moved to St. John to be closer to her niece, Donna Bly. She met many new friends in St. John and could often be seen walking down to the St. John Café on sunny days. She liked to attend an exercise class in town and go for walks. She is survived by several nieces and nephews including; Janice "Jan" Noll, Karen Murphy, Donna Bly, Terry Hilty and William "Billy" Mason; many great-nieces and great-nephews and 2 great-great-nieces. Irene was preceded in death by her two brothers; Woodrow H. Mason and William L. Mason; a niece, Sandy Parker, and a nephew, Dennis Mason, and by a great-nephew, Jason H. Robinson. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, May 25th, at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in St. John with Father Mike Savelesky officiating. Urn committal will be in Anaheim.
