Ivy A. Brannon, 100, lifetime Whitman County resident, passed away on January 19, 2016 at the Whitman Medical Center in Colfax. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26 at the First Baptist Church in Colfax with Pastor Richard May officiating. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery.
Ivy was born on March 30, 1915 in Hay, Washington to John & Martha Luper. She grew up in Hay and attended the local schools, graduating from Hay High School. She met Ray Brannon and the couple married in Hay on September 2, 1934. Ivy was a homemaker most of her life, caring for her two children – Wayne & Trudy – and helping Ray around the farm. She was a 4-H leader in LaCrosse for almost 30 years and a member of many local area clubs. She and Ray also enjoyed dancing at the Grange Hall.
Ivy enjoyed playing cards, sewing, cooking and baking. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember her for always having sweet treats around the house. She enjoyed gardening and keeping a meticulous house – both inside and out. She also very much enjoyed sewing, including taking in tailoring work for other people. After Ray died in 1992, Ivy moved to Colfax where she continued to live at home up to just a week before her passing.
She is survived by her son Wayne Brannon of Colfax; granddaughters Lynette (Peter) Schulte of Houston, Texas and Krista (Joel) Jones of Pullman as well as eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter Trudy in 2014; daughter-in-law Kathy in 2006 as well as four siblings.
Memorial contributions in Ivy's honor are suggested to the Whitman Hospital Foundation. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks for the care Ivy received from the doctors and nurses at Whitman Hospital during Ivy's final days.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax.
