Obituary

John "Jack" Rodgers, long time Colfax resident and electrician, passed away Friday, September 30, 2016 at his home. He was 75. A Memorial Service will be held at Bruning Funeral Home on Friday, October 7th at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Lynn Nelson officiating. John Franklin Rodgers was born in Colfax February 17, 1941 to Dale and Esther (Schweiger) Rodgers. Growing up Jack spent time in Colfax and in Oregon as the family moved around some while his father was working on dam projects. He entered the U.S. Navy during his senior year of high school in 1959 and learned to be a welder and machinist fixing bullet holes in airplanes. He met Marguerite Deify of Spangle, Washington while she was working in Colfax for Kirkpatrick and Utgaard Accounting office. They dated for several years and were married in Spangle on May 21, 1966. Two weeks later, Jack was recalled into the Navy and served during the Vietnam War. His tour of duty ended in 1967 and he returned home to Colfax. They lived here briefly before moving to Renton, Washington in 1969 where Jack learned his trade as an electrician. They moved back to Colfax and to their home on North Cedar Street in October 1979 and have been there since. He worked as a self-employed electrician in this area. He loved hunting and fishing and spent lots of time fishing with his older brother Bill. Jack was also an active member of the Eagles and spent great amounts of time in volunteer work to support that organization. He also did work as a farm hand. Jack is survived by his wife, Peggy, at their Colfax home; two daughters, Ava (Mike) Trask of San Antonio, TX. And Sandy Rodgers of Spokane Valley; he has 5 grandchildren, Caren Rose, Jocelyn Marie, Peggi Robin, Julie Mia, and Michael Anthony; and one great-granddaughter, Luna Pearl. He is also survived by brothers and sisters; Bill (Julia) Rodgers of Colfax, Colleen (Randall) Mick, Dale Rodgers, Mary (Jack) Reed and Paula Rodgers. He was preceded in death by his parents.
