Jack L. Wood, 89, of Colfax died Oct. 2, 2016 at Whitman Health & Rehabilitation. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 pm on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at the Colfax Cemetery. Jack was born in Colfax on Oct. 5, 1926 to Frank & Ethel (Hall) Wood. He grew up in Colfax attending Mockonemia School and graduating from Colfax High School. Jack attended Washington State College, now WSU where he received his Bachelor degree in agriculture science. Following college Jack was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Colfax where he worked for several years at various seed companies. Jack later went to work for the USDA where he spent his entire career as a soil conservationist until his retirement. Jack married Marcella Bellmont in Spokane, WA on Oct. 1, 1977 spending thirteen years together until she preceded him in death in 1990. On April 20, 1991 Jack married Shirley Beaudry in Spokane. Together they have made their home in Colfax and Spokane for the past 25 years. Jack loved walking the fields, taking soil samples and just being outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening & fruit trees. Jack is survived by his wife Shirley; daughter Deborah Killinger & husband Terry and 3 grandsons Tim, Jesse & Stephen. In addition to Marcella, Jack was preceded in death by his parents and a son David L. Wood in 1992. Bruning Funeral Home is caring for the family.
