James D. "Jim" Huber, 71, longtime Colfax resident, went to be with His Lord and Savior, Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Pullman Regional Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be Thursday, May 31, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Onecho Bible Church. Pastor Mike Nyholm and Craig Holmes will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Colfax Cemetery. Jim was born January 29, 1941, in Tacoma, Washington, to Walter and Verna (Paulsen) Huber. He graduated from Stadium High School in 1959 and attended Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. He married Elinor Aeschliman on August 11, 1962. They made their home in Seattle where they worked for Boeing. They started their family in 1964 and were blessed with four children. While a member of the Army Reserve, Jim was hired as a Research Technician for the University of Washington. They moved to Pullman in 1971 where he worked at Washington State University in several departments including Zoology, Biology, Microbiology, and the Scanning Electron Microscope Center. He retired from the University of Washington Orthopedics Department in 1993. He worked at the Whitman County Gazette for several years in the graphics and photo department. Jim built a room for an electron microscope in his home, and with his eye for detail, he loved collecting spiders, bugs and whatever else he could study. Jim was also an avid photographer, with a photography business for many years. He loved collecting and restoring local historical and old family photos. Jim loved gardening and the outdoors as well as his orchard of fruit trees. He had a talent for working on cars and anything mechanical or electronic. Jim and Elinor were blessed with four children, and they loved to travel to the Washington Coast for family vacations. They attended Onecho Bible Church. Jim is survived by Elinor, who would have celebrated 50 years of marriage to him this August; four children and their spouses: Kristine and Clay Mallett of Palouse; Julie and Brian Buller of Clovis, CA; Jennifer and Mark Sequeira of Gilbert, AZ; and Daniel and Robin Huber of Colfax; fourteen grandchildren: Travis, Trisha and Rachelle Mallett; Brandon, Wendy, and Heidi Buller; Gabrielle, Trey, Ethan and Josette Sequeira; Rebekah, Abigail, Joshua and Josiah Huber; his mother, Verna Huber in Palouse and his brother Robert and Hedi Huber of San Juan Capistrano, CA. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Walter Huber. The family suggests memorial gifts be given to Moody Bible Institute, Union Gospel Mission, CareNet of the Palouse or Onecho Bible Church.
