James D. "Jimmie" Hall, longtime Colfax resident, passed away Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Whitman Hospital. He was 91. Mr. Hall was born February 21, 1921 in Steptoe, Washington, the youngest of six children to James R. and Ida M. (McNabb) Hall (Roberts). He spent his youth in Steptoe and attended Steptoe High School. In 1943 he was drafted into the U.S. Army, but was medically discharged in boot camp. Returning to the Northwest, he moved to St. Helens, Oregon where he drove bus for Oregon Motor Coaches between Portland and Astoria. It was on this route that he met his future wife of 51 years, Helen E. Milne. They were married October 18, 1945 and moved back to Colfax where he was employed as a truck driver, mostly for Colfax Grange Supply and the Whitman County Road Department. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Ada Roberts, Zelma Ablutz, Gladys Day, Essie Bafus and his fraternal twin Jean Brandl and by his wife Helen. Jimmie is survived by a son, Lonnie D. Hall of Cheney, WA; a daughter, Sally Jackson of Castle Rock, WA; four grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmie and Helen enjoyed playing cards with friends, trips to Portland and the Oregon Coast and to Jackpot, Nevada. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Steptoe Cemetery.
