James John Moore, 71 of LaCrosse, Washington passed away surrounded by family at his home on October 11, 2017. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 19 at the Selbu Lutheran Church in LaCrosse with a reception to follow. Burial will be held at the Hay Cemetery at 11:30 AM.
James was born in Richland, Washington on June 1, 1946 to Isaac L. and Sarah Elizabeth (Walker) Moore. James grew up in the Colfax area but spent most of his young childhood in Hay where he graduated from LaCrosse high school in 1964. Following high school, James attended Columbia Basin College for mechanics in 1966 and then worked for a short time at Boeing.
On August 16, 1966, James enlisted in the United States Army following his best friend, Jim Hopkins. After serving four tours overseas and being rewarded a bronze star for presidential unit citation, Vietnam service, expert rifle and good conduct, he was discharged on October 12, 1972. He then came back home and worked as a truck driver on the road then eventually became a teamster truck driver at Hanford as a job steward. James loved 4-wheeling, being outdoors whether it was fishing or hunting, and loved being with his dog, Benjamin. He loved everyone he was around especially his kids and grandkids and had a special place in his heart for his granddaughter, Madison Grace.
James is survived by his two children, Laura Dampman of Pasco, WA and John Moore of LaCrosse, WA; grandchildren, Tiffany, Heather, and Madison Grace, and by three siblings, Darlene Martin, Patty Berg, and Sally Hopkins and by his significant other, Linda Hennigar. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sandy Martin and by a brother, Isaac Moore.
