Obituary

James A. Mullally Jr., 81, passed away Aug. 21, 2014, in Pullman, Wash., due to complications related to Alzheimer's. A resident of Kennewick, Wash., and a snowbird resident of Surprise, Ariz., Jim was born Feb. 9, 1933, in Washington, D.C., to James A. Mullally and Katherine Long Mullally.

Jim was a 1952 graduate of Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., and was known for his shenanigans with a group of boys from Chevy Chase known as the Scagg Brothers. He later served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army (honorable discharge in 1955). He married Helen Creamer in 1958 and later divorced. After attending Gonzaga, he earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Catholic University of America in 1959. Upon graduation, Jim's career began in the aerospace industry where he worked on the Minuteman, Titan, Gemini, Apollo and Viking programs. Later he worked in the nuclear industry at Westinghouse Hanford (Richland, Wash.) and Westinghouse Electric (Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, Carlsbad, N.M.). He retired in 1994.

Jim is survived by his wife of 43-years, Barbara G. Huffman Mullally of Kennewick. He is survived by his three sons, James P. Mullally of Pullman, Wash., David W. (RoseAnn) Brownfield of Anchorage, Alaska, and Michael J. (Jeanne) Mullally of Monmouth, Ore.; and two daughters, Patricia Lynn Brownfield, Kennewick, Wash., and Kristin (Rick) Finch of Pullman, Wash. He adored his seven grandchildren: Adam and Erik Brownfield; Alisha Weatherbee and Cody, Michael, Katherine and Colin Finch. Jim was preceded in death by his brother Jack, his parents and his oldest daughter, Megan.

A mass will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Kennewick, Wash. There will be a celebration of Jim's life 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Tagaris Estate Room, 844 Tulip Lane, Richland, Wash.
