Obituary

Janet Louise (Hoffman) Huber, 92, returned to her spritiual life on February 6, 2015 at Whispering Hills Group Home in Pullman, Washington. A member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, her faith supported her through the difficult times life offers.

Born on September 24, 1922 in Colfax, Washington, Janet was the second of three daughters born to Fred & Barbara Hoffman. They farmed in the Shawnee area where Janet, the tomboy of the family, became proficient at driving tractor, milking and horseback riding. She attended grade school at the Hewlin School on Shawnee Road and graduated from Colfax High School with her sister Alice. Janet attended college in Portland where she became a dental hygienist. She married Harold Lloyd Huber on December 5, 1943 and they lived in Walla Walla before moving to Pullman in 1946 where they owned and operated the Spot Shop Dry Cleaners. In 1949 they sold the Spot Shop and joined her parents on the farm. They had four daughters, Sharon (Ledbetter), Carol (Hoveskeland), Susan (McGregor) and Nancy (Huber) before divorcing in 1966.

Janet worked as a hygienist for Dr. William Temple in Colfax and Dr. David Bardwell in Pullman before moving to Bremerton in 1968. She lived in the Bremerton/Silverdale area for the next 31 years as one of three hygienists in the Kitsap County area, working for six dentists until her retirement. She returned to Colfax in 1999. She was a volunteer in many community activities. She was the co-chair in fundraising for Whitman Community Hospital, instrumental in fundraising for the building of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul store in Bremerton. The Colfax Thrifty Grandmothers Shop was her special project in her final years. Mom was beautifully cared for by Lorraine Fulfs and her staff at Whispering Hills. She loved Lorraine and the caregivers and often thanked us for finding such a wonderful home for her. To the end of her physical life she enjoyed good food and a chocolate bar.

Mom now joins those who preceded her in death – her parents, her husband Harold, her sisters Alice & Evelyn, her daughter Carol and great-granddaughter McKenzie. She leaves a bounty of memories with her daughters, numerous grandchildren-great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
