Obituary

Janice Kay Whitman, 80, of Pullman, WA passed away January 8, 2024 at Pullman Regional Hospital.  Janice was born January 16, 1943 in Moscow, ID to Joe & Rowena (Creighton) Babbitt.  She grew up on the family farm outside Pullman and attended Pullman schools.  Janice married Jon Whitman in October of 1960 and together they lived and farmed.  She assisted in all operations of the farm and raised their family.  Through the years, Janice worked for the Palouse Soil Conservation District, a clerk for Taylor Insurance Agency and was an employee for the Holiday Inn Express. Later, she worked as a care provider in both nursing and private home settings. Janice was the founder and leader of the Clinton Clover 4-H club for nearly 20 years and stayed actively involved with the county 4-H programs for several year following.  She was a 7th degree member of the Johnson Grange, a Girl Scout Leader and a Superintendent for the poultry and goat barn for the Palouse Empire Fair.  Janice enjoyed the outdoors and the Palouse; she enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Palouse Prominators.  She was active with the Palouse Hills Dog Fanciers and also breed and showed dogs through the years.  Janice was a member of the Pullman Presbyterian Church and most recently was an active attender at Simpson United Methodist Church.  Janice is survived by her son Mike (Gina) Whitman of Pullman; her daughter Kelly (Gary) Hoff of Spokane, WA; her brother Jerry Babbitt; five grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.  The memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Simpson United Methodist Church, 325 NE Maple St., Pullman, WA.  Concluding services will be held at the Pullman Cemetery following the reception.  Corbeill Funeral Home of Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements.  Memorial donations are suggested to the Whitman County Humane Society.
