Obituary

Jeanette Ping passed away on October 24, 2025 at the Courtyard assisted living facility in Colfax. She was born on August 24, 1931 to Lucille Mattus Ping and Albert Ping in LaCrosse, Washington. Jeanette spent her childhood in LaCrosse graduating with from LaCrosse High School in 1949. After high school, she went to work at the LaCrosse Drug Store for 5 years. She also took in washing and ironing for people in the community for many years. Jeanette went to work at the LaCrosse Insurance Office as an office assistant and worked there until 1978.

She met her soul mate, Jerry Swanbeck, while working at the drug store in 1954, as he was a drug salesman for McKesson. They were together until his death in 2011. She always said he never denied her anything. Together they would be found volunteering at the Palouse Empire Fair flower exhibits, volunteering at the LaCrosse Farmers Day Festival and making hundred of pounds of peanut brittle that they sold at Christmas time. They loved to get in the car and do day trips all over Eastern Washington.

Jeanette was an active member of the Methodist Church. She said she always felt so blessed in her years here on earth. She was also a founding member of the LaCrosse sewing club. The members sponsored a family at Christmas and a gentleman at Lakeland Village. Jeanette ran the bingo game for the club at LaCrosse Festival. Bingo was Jeanette's favorite game, and she would go to Spokane and Lewiston to try her luck.

Jeanette will be remembered for her devotion to her nieces and nephews, her love for her two French bulldogs, her enjoyment in swimming at the pool in the summer, her donating stuffed animals to the children in the community at Christmas time, and crocheting dolls to sell for St. Judes. She had a gift for remembering names and the local family connections. Jeanette was so proud of the contributions she made in helping to name all the students and teachers in the 1941 to 1945 LaCrosse High School annuals. There was not a time when Jeanette wasn't busy crocheting pillowcases, dish towels, and wash rags. She loved to sell these and jewelry at all the county town celebrations.

We will always remember Jeanette wearing her sparkling rings and glittering shoes that matched her outfit.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, her soul mate, Jerry, and her siblings, Don, Ron, Joann, and Vic. Jeanette is survived by her nephews Kevin Barry, Rod (Debbie) Barry, Steven (Wendy) Ping and her nieces Julie (Gary) Simpson, and Dawn (Bob) Sinclair. She also has many great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Courtyard for their wonderful care and concern they gave Jeanette in her last year. Also, we would like to thank Dr. Candelaria and Janice for their years of providing excellent care for Jeanette. You were all blessings to her.
