August 4, 1938 – November 27, 2020
Jerry Jerome Stroup, 82, passed away on November 27, 2020 in Colfax. He was born on August 4, 1938 to Charlie Mae Price and David Jerome Stroup in Morganton, North Carolina. His father came home after his service in the Navy, bundled up his family and came west to LaCrosse where he worked as a farmhand for his uncle, Luther Wise. Jerry went to school in LaCrosse, 1 st – 12 th grade. He enjoyed going to Boys state and he participated in 4H. He worked after school and in the summer for the Don Camp farm. The family attended the Methodist church and later the Baptist church in Colfax which became Jerry's lifelong affiliation. After high school graduation in 1957, he enrolled in Biola and worked his way through college. He was called by God to join the Bible Christian union located in Brooklyn, New York, and became ordained in 1963. He met a Canadian girl, Mary Ellen From, who became his lifelong devoted spouse. Together, they served with the mission for 20 years, 14 of which were served in France. They had four children and returned to the United States in 1980. After a short stay in LaCrosse they moved their family to Colfax where their youngest son was born. Jerry worked many jobs; many of which included jobs at McGregors, the court house, the nursing home and at the hospital, and was the custodian of the First Baptist Church for many years. He is survived by his wife at their Colfax home, Mary Ellen; 5 children, Tim (Carolyn) Stroup of Iowa, Paul (Kathy) Stroup of Illinois, Karine (Reuel) Klempel of Quincy, Joseph (Chrystal) Stroup of Spokane, and Robert Stroup of Pullman; 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
