Obituary

Jessie Luther Seibert was born on August 12, 1935, and passed into glory on April 8, 2026, while living at Serenity Place in Lewiston, Idaho. Jess was born to Alto Winter Seibert and Verda Gertrude Clinkingbeard Seibert in Guymon, Oklahoma. Alto was a sharecropper, so the family moved several times while Jess was growing up. In 1944, the family moved to the Yakima Valley’s Rosa Project area where Alto and Verda farmed. Jess was the second son. George was the eldest, and following Jess was Alto (Junior), Jay (Daniel), and Joan. Jess attended high school in Prosser, Washington, later moving to Dayton for his senior year and graduating in 1954. At that time, he lived with Butch and Barb McCauley. He thoroughly enjoyed his time in Dayton with the McCauley family. He always referred to this time with joy and fondness. Jess attended as many high school reunions as he could through the years. In fact, he moved back to Dayton multiple times, most recently in 2017 with Pat, his late wife.

After graduation, Jess went into the Army in January 1955 as a member of the military police and was stationed in various places. While stationed in the Marshall Islands, he participated in Operation Redbird. After leaving the service in January 1957, he worked on the family farm. During this time, he met and married Sharon (Toby) Tidwell. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1961 from Eastern Washington State College (now Eastern Washington University). The couple lived in Spokane, Washington, were daughters Chalky and Winter were born, and Brewster, Washington, where daughter Hollie was born. Subsequently, the family moved to California for two years, where Jess was a metal and woodshop teacher before returning in 1967 to Prosser to farm. In 1971, the family moved to Ephrata where all three daughters graduated from high school. Jess and Toby were divorced in 1982 but remained amicable.

In 1983, Jess married Beverly McCauley Bosley, daughter of Butch and Barb. They lived in both Grandview and Soap Lake. After Bev’s passing, Jess married Kay McFarland in 2003 making Dayton home again. They divorced in 2011. At this time, Jess returned to the Soap Lake area.

In 2016, Jess got reacquainted with Pat Stierwalt Gordon in the produce section at John’s Thrift, a grocery store in Soap Lake. They both loved to tell the story about Pat picking out fresh tomatoes and Jess offering his homegrown tomatoes. Pat came by Jess’s house and the rest is history! The Lord blessed them with a sweet and loving marriage until Pat passed away on February 12, 2025, due to cancer.

Jess had an incredible work ethic. He worked hard all of his life. He loved to farm and grow things. He was a dyed-in-the-wool John Deere man. Whether crops, tomatoes, or roses, Jess loved the soil. Jess loved to share buckets of roses with others as well as bags of garden produce. He was generous with those in need.

Jess loved his Bible and felt a strong conviction about God’s word being translated into local, tribal languages. He was a big supporter of Wycliffe Bible Translators and many missionaries in the field. His heart was drawn to those who did not know the Lord and loved to share with them about God’s love made manifest in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Jess enjoyed people and talking with them.

Homemade ice cream was sure to be on the menu at family birthday parties and gatherings because Jess loved making it and bringing it. Popping up a batch of popcorn was a frequent evening snack for Jess. For a few summers, he even grew his own popcorn in the garden.

Later in life, he became more active in politics, being a supporter of the Republican Party in Grant and Columbia Counties. Jess even attended the Washington State convention one year.

Jess is preceded in death by his beloved wife Pat, his parents Alto and Verda and stepfather Hollis, his siblings George, Alto (Junior), Jay (Daniel), and Joan. Surviving Jess are daughters Chalky Monson (Greg), Winter Seibert (Hank Heschle), Hollie Lackey (Lee), stepson John Stierwalt (Debbie), and stepdaughter Jill Hensley (Russ), and together with Pat’s family, twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Serenity Place for providing a loving and safe environment, Elite Home Health and Hospice—Palliative Care for providing skilled nursing care, Community Bible Church for being a loving church family, and Corbeill’s Funeral Home for assisting with funeral arrangements.
