IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan Sharon
Couey
January 3, 1940 – November 28, 2020
It is with great joy and deep sadness balancing precariously in our hearts, that we announce the passing of Joan Sharon Mohr Couey on November 28, 2020 at 8:30 a.m.. Joan, Joanie, Mama, Grandma Dough and GG was born January 3, 1940. She was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerson Mohr whose family settled at the old homestead just outside of Colfax, WA in the latter half of 1904. Joan survived her younger brother Norman Jerson Mohr.
Joan was the maternal glue that held her family together, giving birth to 8 children and was loved deeply as a mother by many others including her three step children and many sons and daughters in-law. Her crowning joy and highest achievements were her children, twenty-two grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Even those not "officially" part of the family, referred to Joan as Mom, Mama or Grandma Dough to her great delight. Joan was a baker par excellence by trade and necessity which is where the name "Grandma Dough" came from. Cinnamon rolls and maple bars were her most valuable currencies.
The one thing Joan held closer, and loved with deeper conviction was her Creator, Father, Savior and friend. Joan's life was marked irrevocably by her faith in Jesus. In fact, one could argue that her fierce love for her family and loyal friendship found their source in her faith. She was a part of many churches throughout her lifetime, took part in short term missions and loved to sing the old hymns in church with her unmistakable and powerful vibrato voice that will be missed until we're together again.
At Joan's request, she will be buried in Steptoe, WA next her late eldest son, Douglas Robert Hall. Her Memorial service will be held at the Nazarene Church in Colfax, WA Saturday, December 12th at 11 a.m.. In consideration of our current national health crisis, the service will be limited to immediate family members. However, Joan's memory would be honored well with roses of any variety, which can be sent directly to the Nazarene Church. The family thanks all those who will be memorializing Joan with them in spirit in advance.
Bruning Funeral Home is caring for the family. On-line condolences may be made at www.bruningfuneralhome.com .
