Joan (Luft) Schussman, 80, of Moscow and formerly of Colfax, WA passed into Our Lord's loving arms on June 14, 2011 at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow, ID. What a loving, quiet and gentle spirit she was. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Joan was born Nov. 25, 1930 in Colfax, WA to John & Pauline (Bidel) Luft. Joan was a graduate of Colfax High School and on August 19, 1950 she married Loren Schussman. They were later divorced. One of God's Saints, Joan always had the right thing to say, she cared for anyone in need, and made the best banana bread and Christmas goodies! Her family came first to her, enjoying each new little one as they came along. Her biggest heartache was the passing of her first great-granddaughter, Sabrina Cole. Joan was also preceded in death by her brothers Don and Bill Luft and her beloved son-in-law, Phil Haxton. She was adored by and will be missed by her daughters Julia Rinard (Jerry) of Moscow, Idaho, Lori Mulalley (Dennis) also of Moscow and Terre Schussman-Haxton of Vancouver, Washington; her brother Bob Luft of Colfax and sister Judy Fowler, Burleson, Texas; as well as five grandchildren Lori Lorentz, Moscow, Christie Pernsteiner of Viola, Idaho, Tara Mulalley and Nathan Mulalley both of Portland, Oregon and Molly Hohenstreet of Houston, Texas. She also leaves 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Monday, June 20th at 2:00 pm at Peace Lutheran Church in Colfax. Pastor Philip Misner will officiate. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday from Noon-5:00 at the funeral home.
