Obituary

JOHN BERNARD DRUFFEL, 93, a lifelong Colton, WA resident passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at his Colton home. John was born June 16, 1920 in Colton to Bernard & Maggie (Reisenauer) Druffel. He was born and grew up on the family farm, attending Guardian Angel School, and graduating from Colton High School in 1938. In 1946 John married Frances Lukins and they made the family farm their home, where they raised their seven children. John farmed in the Colton area his entire life until turning the family operation over to his sons. Frances died in 1977. John married Alma Busch Kirpes in Colton on Oct. 30, 1982. They lovingly brought their two families together as one, enjoying over 30 years of life together. John was a lifetime member of St. Gall Catholic Church, and was active on the Parish Council as well as the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Colton Grange, served on the school board of Colton High School and was a board member of the Pullman Grange Supply. John loved Colton and was an active member of the community. He loved to travel and meeting new people was an important part of his life. He always looked forward to his daily trip out to the farm and was an avid gardener and pruner. He enjoyed making sauerkraut and loved family and the Palouse area history especially through old movies and photos. He was often referred to as the family historian and never left home without a camera in his pocket. Most of all, John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a constant in all of his family's lives celebrating birthdays-graduations-baptisms-sporting events-40 yrs. in the Johnson 4 th of July Parade and many other special events. He is survived by his wife Alma at the family home in Colton; his children Linda (Dudley) French of New York; Paula (Glenn) LeVan and Anita (Russ) Fabre all of Kennewick; Debra (Harvey) Bielenberg of Moscow; Jeff Druffel and Dan (Lorna) Druffel all of Colton; his step children Dan Kirpes of Texas; Jeanniene Robinson and Colleen Mikesell of Olympia; Alan Kirpes of Wenatchee; one sister Trudy (LeRoy) Weber of Colton; 27 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and Erika Iiams. In addition to his first wife Frances, John was preceded in death by a daughter Rebecca Druffel, grandson Kyle Bielenberg, one brother Alfred (Fritz) and sisters Helen Moser, Elsie Fulfs, Mary Howell and Leona Scharnhorst. The Rosary service will be held at 7 PM on Monday, April 21 st at St. Gall Catholic Church in Colton. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 22 nd at 10 AM at St. Gall Catholic Church, with vault interment following at St. Gall Catholic Cemetery. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA is caring for the family. Memorial donations are suggested to the St. Gall Endowment Fund or to a favorite charity.
