John J. Maher III passed away peacefully at his home in Pullman, Washington on July 17, 2025, with his wife and son by his side. He was born on November 3, 1941, in Gainesville, Florida to John Jr. and Elinor (Regan) Maher John, alongside his younger sister Michelle, spent much of his childhood in Europe. After his father's tenure as Deputy Fiscal Director for U.S. Forces in Austria concluded, the family returned to the United States, where John completed his education and graduated from Anaheim Union High School in 1960. Soon after, he enlisted in the Air Force. While stationed in Hawaii, John met Janet Irene Samuelson, who would become his wife in 1962. The couple moved to Sacramento, California after his military service, and in 1966, they welcomed their son, John J. Maher IV. While working various jobs to support his growing family, John began his studies in clinical audiology and speech pathology. In 1972, the family relocated to Seattle, Washington, where John pursued postgraduate studies in Clinical Audiology, Public Health Administration, and Computer Science at the University of Washington. Upon completing his studies in 1975, he embarked on a forty-year career in Healthcare Management. John spent thirteen years at Northwest Medical Center in Seattle before founding a Clinical Audiology practice, which he later sold to a national eye care franchise expanding into hearing healthcare. In the 1990s, John broadened his career by joining the Hanford Environmental Health Foundation, serving as an administrator for onsite health clinics at Hanford under the Department of Energy. In 2001, he became Director of Operations at Community Health Centers in Yakima, and in 2003, he was appointed CEO of Glacier Community Health Center in Cut Bank, Montana. He held this position until his retirement in 2014. That same year Jan passed away. In 2015, John relocated to Pullman, Washington, where he married Jeanette Carson. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Jr. and Elinor Maher; his sister, Michelle Rimbey; his wife, Janet Maher; and his father-in-law, John (Sam) Samuelson. John is survived by his wife, Jeanette Maher of Pullman; his son, John Maher IV of Gold Bar; his mother-in-law, Rosemarie Samuelson of White Salmon; brothers-in-law Carl Samuelson (Virginia) of Bothell, Kirk Samuelson of Vancouver, Chris Samuelson of Las Vegas; sister-in-law Paulette Lowery (Mike) of Pullman; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva Hospice, especially Karen, Kelly, Matt, and Jim, for their care during John's final seven months, and to Serengeti Home Care, particularly Aman, for daily support over two months. In accordance with John's wishes, no service will be held. His remains will be laid to rest at Pullman Cemetery. Corbeill Funeral Home of Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements.
