John William Kramer, 90, of Pullman, Washington, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, in Pullman. He was born on August 17, 1935, in Dearborn, Michigan, to Mense and Helen (Gilmour) Kramer.

John attended Michigan State University, where he met Alice M. Kerner. The couple married on June 18, 1959, and began a life of adventure and service together. Through international teaching assignments, they lived in Whangarei, New Zealand, where their son Kevin was born, and later in Nsukka, Nigeria, where their son Mark was born.

After returning to the United States, John continued his education at Michigan State University and the University of California, Davis. He earned both his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Doctor of Veterinary Pathology (Ph.D.) degrees. In 1972, John and his family moved to Pullman, where he joined the Department of Veterinary Pathology at Washington State University. He dedicated nearly three decades to teaching and research before retiring in 2000.

John and Alice were devoted members of Community Congregational United Church of Christ. Together, they generously gave their time to numerous organizations throughout the Pullman community, including the Snake River Gun Dog Club, the Boy Scouts of America, and the maintenance of Camp Grizzly and Camp N-Sid-Sen. John especially enjoyed spending time with his English Pointers while chasing chukar on the breaks of the Snake River and looked forward each year to his annual salmon fishing trips to Alaska

John is survived by his sons, Kevin (Tammy) Kramer of Juneau, Alaska, and Mark (Bonita) Kramer of Bozeman, Montana; and his grandsons, David and Kyle Kramer.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice; his parents, Mense and Helen (Gilmour) Kramer; and his sisters, Jean Frost and Helen Turchan.
