IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Johnathon "John"
S. Roy
November 18, 1955 – July 7, 2025
On July 7th, 2025, Johnathon Stewart Roy (John) passed from this life into the presence of his personal savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by family and friends.
John was the last of five children from a troubled marriage, he never met his biological father. John was raised by an aunt, grandmother, birth mother, and his older sister in Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada. John had struggled throughout his young life to find peace. After painful years of searching, John found God's path to redemption and righteousness through our Lord Jesus Christ (or really, God found John). Then as a young man John was "adopted" by a Christian family, the McCulloch's, who welcomed and included him in their entire family. McCulloch's also helped John attend Nipawin Bible Institute located in northern Saskatchewan.
During a summer internship from Nipawin Bible Institute, John met his wife Jill on June 7, 1977, at Esperanza. Esperanza is a Christian outreach mission on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island B.C. John and Jill dated almost entirely by mail and were married 2 years later on June 9, 1979 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.
After their marriage, John and Jill worked for a year at Frontier Lodge, a Youth for Christ ministry in northern Alberta. Then, they relocated from Canada to Jill's hometown, Minneapolis, Mn. John and Jill worked for Jill's Dad, Carl Harmsen, developing Carl's real estate property. John and Jill Roy's oldest son, Joshua, was born in Minneapolis. John also enrolled at the University of Minnesota to study engineering.
In 1983, John transferred to Montana State University located in Bozeman, Mt. where John and Jill were able to find a ranch-hand job with housing on the outskirts of town. Here at FX Ranch both of their daughters, Heidi and Becky, were born. With the sponsorship of John's father-in-law, Carl, John became a US Citizen in 1986. While in Bozeman, John graduated from Montana State University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1988.
John spent his career working within the nuclear power industry, first at the Savannah River National Laboratories (SRNL)in Aiken, South Carolina through, and then at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratories (INEEL) near Idaho Falls, Idaho through 2005.
When John transferred to the INEEL in Idaho, the family moved to Arco, Idaho. In Arco, the family rented, moved around, and rented some more. John and family finally built themselves a new house in Arco. It was to their new home that they welcomed their two adopted sons. First Danny, from the Philippines and then James, from India.
In 1999, John and Jill had the opportunity to purchase 80 acres near Princeton, Idaho on "The Palouse" and pursue their lifelong dream of homestead-farming. Upon John's early retirement from INEEL in 2005, the Roy family permanently located to their farm and began "Wolf Brand Grass Fed Beef"; raising natural beef and direct marketing it to their meat customers. John, with his family and friends, also built a custom log house and all of the farm outbuildings.
John is survived in life by his loving wife Jill, and their 4 children and spouses; Joshua Roy and wife Jessica, Rebecca Georger and husband Anthony, Daniel Roy and wife Elizabeth, and son James Roy (US Army) as well as 10 grandchildren. John is predeceased by his sister Debbie Lambden, mother Mona Roy Horne, and daughter, Heidi Barron.
Although John is deeply missed by his family and friends, we are all looking forward to eternity in heaven just being together with John; continuing the healing and the joy we had begun to experience on earth.
