IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joochan "Jc"
Austen Lee
November 22, 1993 – July 13, 2018
JooChan Austen Lee, Spokane flight school student, was killed in a plane crash on July 13, 2018 near Deer Park, Washington. He was 24. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, July 20 th at 6:00 p.m. at the Fourth Memorial Church in Spokane. JooChan was born November 22, 1993 in Andong, South Korea to Sang Pyo and Myung Heui Baek Lee. He grew up in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan with his two older sisters. He attended International School and liked to play sports, especially soccer. In addition to being very athletic JooChan was a good academic student and was very smart. He came to America in 2015 and began college courses in California. He soon transferred in the Fall of 2015 to the Moody Aviation program at Felts Field in Spokane. He was studying to be a missionary pilot. While in school in Spokane he met Yuki Joy Koike, also a student there who was studying to be an English teacher in the TESOL program ("teaching English to students of other languages"). They dated for a time and were married in Spokane on April 15, 2017. Austen and Yuki are expecting their first child early next year. Together they loved to travel and visit National Parks, they loved to eat out at restaurants and Austen particularly loved PhO, a Vietnamese noodle dish. Yuki forced him to watch movies with her and they also laughed together as they watched episodes of "Friends" on TV. They always had a good time with friends and as an Assistant Pastor of the New Morning Korean Church in Pullman their relationships stretched outside of Spokane to many people in the Northwest. Yuki and Austen recently celebrated their marriage by taking a honeymoon in California and Las Vegas. JooChan Austen will be missed by many in the community but especially by his wife Yuki and their unborn child living in Spokane; by his parents Sang Pyo and Myung Heui living in Kyrgyzstan ; by his two sisters, Mirae Lee in South Korea and JooEun Shin and her family of Irvine, California. A GoFundMe account for Yuki and their baby has been set-up and contributions in Austen's memory are gratefully appreciated. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax is honored to care for this family.
