Joe Miller, Colfax farmer and business man, passed away Monday, April 15, 2019 at the Whitman Hospital in Colfax. He was 81. A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 18 th , at 1:30 in the Colfax Cemetery with Pastor Lynn Nelson officiating. Joseph Leon Miller was born September 4, 1937 in Colfax to A.S. "Jack" and Evelyn Erwin Miller, their only child. He grew up in Colfax and graduated from the Colfax High School in 1956 where he had competed in boxing and football. Along with his classmate, Mike Johnson, they each drove their prized 1956 Chevy Bel-Airs to school. He was also a proud member of the FFA. He attended college in Portland, Oregon where he completed his Associate's degree. He returned to the Dusty area where he farmed with his dad for several years. For many years Joe operated his own rock crushing and trucking business near Colfax called Whitman Rock & Construction. Always a hard worker, he operated a concrete plant as well. In 1981 Joe moved to Nevada and operated his rock crusher at several construction sites around the state for many years. For the last 15 years or so he worked for Southern Oregon Rock near Medford, Oregon. He returned to Dusty and the farm about a year ago where he helped Lance occasionally on the equipment. He had a lifelong love of fast cars, motorcycles and drag races. Joe and his significant other of 17 years, Marlo Hale, loved to travel to Chico, California where they enjoyed taking in the World of Outlaw Sprint Car races, the upper echelon of sprint car racing. Joe leaves behind his family and many friends in the community; including Marlo, at their home in Dusty; children; Jack Miller, Portland, OR., Kathy (Denny) Rainey in Arizona, Lori Jo (Vic) Roberts of Kennewick and Lance (Annette) Miller, Colfax; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
