Obituary

Judith Lael "Judy" Herdering, 80, of Pullman, passed away unexpectedly on November 24, 2013 at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane. Memorial services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday December 3, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pullman with a reception following. Judy's urn will be privately inurned in the niche wall at the Pullman Cemetery.

Judy was born on November 6, 1933 in Spokane, Washington to Jule & Fyrne Rometch. The family moved to Portland, Oregon when she was young and she completed her grade school education in Portland. When Judy was in the 8th grade her family returned to Spokane and she completed school there, graduating from Lewis Clark High School with the class of 1952.

She furthered her education at Whitman College in Walla Walla, earning her B.S. degree. She met Carl Herdering in 1956 during a lab technician training session at St. Luke's Hospital in Spokane and the couple later married on December 28, 1957. They moved to Pullman shortly thereafter and have made Pullman their home since that time.

Judy worked as a lab technician for Pullman Memorial Hospital for 35 years, leaving the hospital to go to work for Dr. Claude Weitz & Dr. Dennis Simpson in 1991. She retired from their practice in 1995.

Judy was remarkable in her dedication to community service activities. She was a Campfire leader from 1968-1982; an alumni and active local advisor for the Alpha Chi Honors Society; a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and also dedicated 15 years of her retirement working five days per week with special needs children at Lincoln Middle School.

Judy was involved in many hobbies including gardening, cross-stitch and embroidery and was a member of the ladies quilt group at Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed all aspects of American and English history and very rarely could she be seen without a book, crossword or magazine in her hands. She loved to cook and enjoyed trying out new recipes she would come across. Judy and Carl also loved to travel and she particularly enjoyed visiting Greece, Italy and attending the annual Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Judy is survived by her husband of 55 years Carl Herdering at the family home; daughter Sue Herdering and husband Ken Ellsworth; son Christopher Herdering; grandsons Carl & Richard Ellsworth; and sisters Barbara Larson and Carol Pelo of Spokane. She was preceded in death by her parents.

At Judy's request, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to any organization that helps the developmentally disabled.
