Jerome "Jug" Daubert, 73, a lifelong Colfax resident, died suddenly on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Whitman Hospital. Funeral Services will be Saturday, November 29th at 1:00 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Colfax High School. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday from 9 to 3 at Bruning Funeral Home. Jerome William Daubert was born in Colfax November 26, 1940 to John and Nellie (Presnell) Daubert. He grew up on the farm near town with his older sister, Sherry, and the two always remained very close. During high school years he was active in basketball, football and baseball. He often liked to serve as manager for the sports teams as well. His love of cars began at an early age too. Jug graduated from Colfax High School in 1959. He attended Columbia Basin College in Pasco where he played football. After his father passed away, he returned to Colfax to be closer to his mom. He began his career with the Colfax Fire Department in 1964; spending much of the next twenty five years as a Captain in the department. Jug also liked to bowl on Colfax leagues and had rolled a perfect 300 game on the alley. He attended car shows and was well known in town for his "orange" truck or his car, "the judge" but his real true love and passion were the kids in athletics. Jug coached baseball and football in Colfax for years and started the girl's softball program here. He married Naomi Holland in Colfax October 20, 1984. They made their home near where he grew up ever since. Jug touched many students' lives through his coaching and mentoring. He was always seen at sporting events and an avid supporter of the Colfax Bulldogs. He also loved to follow the Rams and the Dodgers. Jug retired from the Fire Department in 1989 but was continuing to serve as Fire Commissioner for District 11 at the time of his death. He liked to frequent Arby's, Taco Time and Subway in town and could be seen visiting with his many friends at any of these establishments most days. He was a former member of the Colfax Jay-Cee's. Jerome is survived by his wife Naomi at their Colfax home; a niece Johnelle Winter of Osburn, Idaho and cousin Tom Welch, Colfax, as well as a whole host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sherry Stosalovich and by his parents. The family suggests memorial gifts go to the Colfax Volunteer Fire Department or to Colfax Athletic Programs at the school. On-line guest book is at www.bruningfuneralhome.com
