Obituary

Life-long Pullman area resident, Karen Bloomfield passed away August 4, 2025 in Coeur d'Alene after a very brief battle with cancer.  Born September 6, 1942, she was the daughter of Dorothy and Wayne McMurray and devoted wife of Gary Bloomfield, the love of her life – married for 64 wonderful years. She was the loving mother of Ginger and Brenda.

Karen was a 1960 graduate of Pullman High and attended Kinman Business School. She was a proud 30-year retiree of WSU as a part of the Registrar's office team.  As with everything she did, she poured her energy into being a productive leader.  She retired in 1997 and pursued her hobbies and relationships with friends and family with the same energy as her career.

Karen knew she was called to serve and stepped in whenever there was a need, as a leader, helper or volunteer; she worked with Campfire, 4-H and the Pullman Hospital gift shop. Gary and Karen enjoyed many years of square dancing with the Palouse Promenaders where they made so many friends whom they considered family. She jumped at any chance for travel with friends old or new. There were many adventures made to parts of this country and beyond where she was always excited to experience the area's local flavor.  Her favorite was visiting Amish country.  Traveling locally, they joined the Jawbones RV group making more friends and enjoying travel in the fully personalized fifth-wheel trailer.

Karen, Mom, Grammie, Auntie as she was fondly called by those who loved her, enjoyed sewing, often embroidering a gift to express her gratitude which she always had. She passed along her love of projects and especially sewing to both daughters and all those that knew her.  She was a gifted card maker and writer spending the first day of each month making and writing for everyone in the upcoming month. Starting with 4-H and campfire, continuing later into camping and club, she loved to devise a theme, game, tour, or activity.  She would share her ideas with Gary and the idea would come to life. She loved the laughs a good game with friends and family could provide.

Karen is survived by her husband Gary, daughters Ginger (Bart) Davis of Ferndale, WA and Brenda (Len III) Pieroni of La Cañada, CA. She had two adoring grandchildren, Allison (Matthew) Harris and Len IV (Regina) Pieroni.  She is also survived by her brother Ken (Judy) McMurray.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Wayne and Dorothy (Glunk) McMurray.

The family wants to express their gratitude to their friends who have always been supportive and helpful and the staff at Pullman Hospital and especially Kootenai Medical Center who were phenomenal.

Services will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2025, 11:00 am at the Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Pullman. The family requests her memory be honored with donations to the Pullman Depot Heritage Center or the Davidson Hospitality Center at Kootenai Health.
