Obituary

Kelly D. Nickell, Colfax resident, passed away Friday morning, July 7, 2017 at his home. He was 76. Kelly was born March 23, 1941 in Twisp, Washington to Stanley and Ida Darlington Nickell. He grew up in Twisp and graduated from high school there. Kelly enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1963 to 1969. Upon his honorable discharge he worked various jobs around Twisp and Spokane, Washington. He owned and operated taverns and at one time had Kelly's Barber Shop in Spokane. He married Angela Shirk in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho in 1983. They moved to Colfax in 1989 where they owned and operated The Sandbagger Tavern. Kelly loved everything about golf and spent as much time as he could either playing the game or watching it on TV. He also liked to fish, play cards, and was an avid reader of the dictionary and his encyclopedia collection. His most loved pastime, however, was spending quality time with his family. He is survived by his wife Angela; 5 children, Larry (Kathy) Eickholdt, Joe (Jennifer) Hiner, Dawn (Ron) Dennison, Steven (Brandie) Nickell and Stan (Mic) Nickell; his grandchildren, Amber, Aaron, André (Stephanie), Damien, Riley, Brady, Angela (Eric), Ronnie (Katie), Natalie, Cody, Chase and Chey'ne; by 18 great-grandchildren and by his sister, Sally Franklin. He was preceded in death by his parents and by 2 brothers, Michael and Barnett. No services are planned at this time. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Colfax Golf Course Foundation, 2402 N. Cedar St, Colfax, WA. 99111. On-line guest book is at www.bruningfuneralhome.com
