Kenneth W. Callaway, formerly of Spokane, passed away Friday morning, February 3, 2017 at the Whitman Hospital in Colfax. He was 84. Ken moved to Colfax in 2008 to be closer to family. He was born May 13, 1932 in Pullman, Washington to Russell Callaway and Rita Kulp-Koenig. He and his brother, Clinton, grew up in Albion. Kenneth graduated from Pullman High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954 including a year of duty in Germany. He was honorably discharged and returned to this area where he completed his education at Kinman Business University in Spokane. He married Rose Mary Brown on September 7, 1955 in Albion. They made their home in Spokane where Kenneth worked as a bookkeeper for Columbia Electric. They raised a family of three daughters in Spokane and Ken loved spending quality time with the family. They liked to go camping or spend time outdoors. Ken liked hunting, woodworking and helping his wife with genealogy. Columbia Electric was later bought out by Amfac Electric Supply Co. and Ken worked his way up from bookkeeper to office manager and finally retired after 35 years of service to the company in 1994. He and Rosie bought a small acreage of land near Chattaroy and moved there in retirement. Ken loved "the ranch" as he called it and spent countless hours cutting trees or firewood on his property. He and Rosie moved to Colfax in 2008. He is survived by his wife Rosie; 3 daughters, Jeannie (Ron) Dowers of Deer Park, WA., Pamela (Wayne) Bergey, Colfax, and Patricia (Carl) Boyd of the Spokane Valley; 8 grandchildren, April, Holly, Ashley and Hailey Bergey, Libby and Adin Boyd, and Christopher and Isaac Dowers as well as 14 great-grandchildren; and his niece Virginia Henry of Spokane. He was preceded in death by his brother Clinton. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 13 at 11:00 am at the Albion Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Albion Community Church.
