Obituary

Kirk McCall, lifelong cattle rancher in the Winona/Endicott area, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012 at The Henderson House adult family home in Colfax. He was 87. Viewing will be Monday from Noon to 4:00 and Tuesday from 9:00 to 4:00 at Bruning Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, April 11th at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Bruning Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Winona Cemetery. Kirk was born October 16, 1924 at Lamont, Washington to Kirk C. and Nora (Parks) McCall. When he was about ten years old the family moved to Winona. Kirk grew up helping his parents on the ranch and he graduated from the Winona High School. Kirk went to work for a few years helping farmers in the Endicott area. He married his high-school sweetheart, Janet Shawgo, in Lewiston, Idaho on April 26, 1946. They lived in Endicott for a couple of years while Kirk was running a service station there. In 1948 they settled on their ranch three miles north of Winona on the Palouse River and kept very busy for the rest of their lives doing what they loved. Kirk raised cattle and hogs and also grew crops such as wheat, barley and hay. They raised their family of three boys and a girl on the ranch as well. Kirk and Janet were both active in their children's activities such as 4-H, FFA, and school sporting events. He also belonged to the LaCrosse Methodist Church, the Inland Empire Angus Association as well as the American Angus Association and the National Farmers Organization. Kirk was a long time member of the Winona Cemetery Board and had served as its secretary for many, many years. His greatest hobby was his work and doing what he loved. He also liked to hunt a little bit, especially for birds. Kirk is survived by three sons; Brian of Reardan, WA, Rodney of Winona and Neal of Ewan, WA; a daughter, Evelyn McCall-Sterett of Davenport, WA., three grandchildren and his sister, Velda Sheer of Colfax, WA;his Wife of 66 years Janet of Colfax WA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 8 brothers. The family suggests memorials be made to the LaCrosse Methodist Church. On-line guest book is at www.bruningfuneralhome.com
