Obituary

Larry Torvil BeVan died peacefully on October 20, 2015 of cancer in his home with his wife of 61 years by his side. Larry was born to Torvil BeVan and Margaret Steele on June 28, 1933 near Salmon, Idaho and graduated from Salmon High School in 1951. Larry attended the University of Idaho where he met Donna Belle Davie; they were married in 1954. Larry is also survived by his four children Torv (Nancy) BeVan, Leah (Steve) Mahaffy, Erik (Lara) BeVan, Kyla (Greg) Burton, 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

In 1962 Larry heard and believed the Gospel Jesus sent. A New Testament worship service was held in his home for 45 years. Over the years many were encouraged to attend public Gospel meetings which are still being preached throughout the communities.

In 1965, the couple bought a farm and later Larry started Larry's Saws and Windows. Friends, neighbors, and customers throughout the community often stopped by to visit, share treasures, or swap stories. Larry was known for his love of the Faith, quick wit, hilarious jokes and one-liners, whistling, reciting poetry, crafting a sharp edge of a knife, bib overalls, and most of all, his love of others. He would often drop everything to lend a helping hand. He was a strong man with a truck and a good engineering eye for fitting things together; Larry would jump in any time people needed to move or haul anything to anywhere. Larry's barn, which may or may not include treasures, was often a topic of speculation.

During the last several months of his life, people from near and far came to visit and filled his home with love, visits, food, flowers, piano music, singing, and fellowship. In many respects, Larry was able to attend, participate and enjoy his own service. The family is grateful for the outpouring of support from all and is especially thankful for Hospice and Home Health Care; their wonderful nurses provided special tender care and made it possible for Larry to stay at home where he loved to be. The family does not plan a formal ceremony and plans to scatter Larry's ashes on the farm where he lived for nearly 50 years. Please pass on a kindness in Larry's memory rather than sending flowers.
