Obituary

Laura Christine (Huberty) Scott, 42, of Pullman, WA entered Gods Kingdom on January 13, 2024.  After a long and courageous battle with cancer, she died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her children and their father, and her family.  Laura was born June 1, 1981 in Surat, India.  She spent her early childhood years in an orphanage there, until she was adopted by the John and Mary Huberty family.  She arrived in the USA in Feb. of 1987, and was formally adopted and became a citizen Feb. 26, 1988.  She grew up in Pullman and graduated from Pullman High School in 2000.  She loved her new home in America, and as a young girl, Laura enjoyed participating in gymnastics, soccer, swimming, tennis and was a gifted member of the PHS Track team.  After High School she attended Lewis and Clark State College for a year, and then came back to Pullman after landing a job at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories in Pullman.  She married Joseph Scott, and they had two children.  They later divorced.

Laura was a loving mother, and her children, James and Marie, were the absolute joy of her life.  Spending time with them was her top priority, and everything she did centered around their safety, enjoyment, and wellbeing.  In time, she went back to work in the retail industry in Pullman, spending her last 8 years at Walmart, until her health began to decline.  There she was known and respected for her kindness and dedicated service to "Her People"… all her customers as well as her beloved team of employees.  As a family, they enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, and swimming.  They loved playing card games with family and friends, as well as video gaming together.  She was enamored with movies, and spent hours learning about other countries, cultures, and international cuisine in that fashion.  Laura would often comment that she and her children were "world travelers…through their stomachs!"  In time she developed a great knowledge base and proficiency in this area.

Laurie was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pullman, and she raised her children in that same faith community.  As she bravely and graciously fought her battle with cancer, her faith deepened, and she began to express her remarkably deed faith insights openly… with grace, wisdom, and peace… until the end.

Laura is survived by her son, James Alexander Scott and her daughter, Marie Elizabeth Scott, and her dog, Hotchie.  Also include are her parents, John and Mary Huberty; her 2 brothers and their Families: Sean and Marti Huberty and their children Thomas and Kendle: David and Erika Huberty and their children Emma, Perin and Anders; and her sister: Katy and Jeremy Miles and their children Claire and Colin.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Maria Michelle Huberty.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 440 NE Ash St., Pullman, WA.  A reception will follow at the church Social Hall, and burial will follow at the Pullman City Cemetery for family and friends.  The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed at 10:30 AM on Jan. 27th linked at https://sacredheartpullman.org
