Leo Walter Johnson passed away at the age of 10 months on March 31, 2017, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane from complications of Alpers-Huttenlocher Syndrome, a rare degenerative neurological condition.
Born at Pullman Regional Hospital on May 16, 2016, Leo brought joy to everyone who met him. His jolly laugh, chubby, kissable cheeks, and gummy smile brightened everyone's day. Leo delighted in spending time with his big sister, Cora, who was fiercely protective of Leo and could always make him laugh with a game of peek-a-boo.
The family is eternally grateful for the support and care received throughout Leo's illness, beginning with Leo's pediatrician Dr. Darby Justis, the staff at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston and ending with the pediatricians, nurses, geneticists, neurologists and palliative care team on the 3-South Pediatrics Floor at Providence Sacred Heart Children's Hospital in Spokane, all of whom worked tirelessly to identify the cause of Leo's illness, treat his disease and keep him comfortable. Your kindness has forever touched our hearts.
Leo is survived by his parents Dustin Johnson and Courtney Kramer (Clarkston, WA); his sister Cora Johnson (Clarkston, WA); his grandparents Dennis and Paullette Johnson (Castle Rock, WA); his grandparents Paul and Michelle Carr (Castle Rock, WA); his grandparents Mike and Sandi Kramer (Clarkston, WA); his uncle and aunt Ian and Gretchen Youngren (Lind, WA); his uncle and aunt Brian and Denise Johnson (Seattle, WA); and an extended network of family and friends who loved Leo.
A memorial service for Leo is planned for 10am on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at St. Gall Catholic Church in Colton, WA, to be followed by interment at St. Gall Cemetery. Following the service, a reception in Leo's honor will be held at the Colton Gun Club. Children are welcome to attend, as nothing gives Leo's parents more relief than seeing healthy, thriving children.
Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Jackson's Pay It Forward Foundation in Lewiston, ID, which provides financial assistance to families with ill children in our community.
