Obituary

Leslie Elaine Thompson, longtime LaCrosse resident, passed away early Friday morning, March 14, 2025 at the Whitman Hospital in Colfax from complications of ALS. She was 62. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 19th, at 11:00 AM at the Selbu Lutheran Church followed by burial in the LaCrosse Cemetery. Viewing will be on Tuesday from 9 AM to 5 PM at Corbeill Funeral Home in Colfax.

Leslie was born June 5, 1962 in Spokane to Lester and Pearl Martin Gibson. Her early years were in Cheney, Washington until the family moved to LaCrosse in 1968 where her dad worked for the railroad. She grew up in LaCrosse with her two sisters and attended school there. Leslie played basketball and volleyball in school and ran some track. She married Allan Thompson when she was 17 in Colfax on November 20, 1979. They made their home in LaCrosse where Leslie kept busy as a homemaker and mother. She loved babies and spent many years as an excellent day care provider for dozens of families around town throughout the years. Later in life she was thoughtful enough to call on and visit many seniors in the area and provide that much needed companionship. She was also well known for her bountiful flowers pots that were scattered around her yard and gardens.

Leslie actively participated in her community by holding membership on the Parks & Rec Board and as a Board Member for the LaCrosse Community Outreach. She was an avid swimmer and loved spending time at the pool. She was always happy to help and volunteer her time and talents wherever they might be needed. Rheumatoid arthritis affected her mobility some; especially during the hard winter months. Most recently a diagnosis of ALS dealt her family a serious blow.

Leslie is survived by her husband Allan and their son; Brian at their home in LaCrosse; and her sisters Lois (Eric) Startin of LaCrosse and Norma Gibson of Colfax. She was preceded in death by two daughters; Janet when she was 10 and Christina when she was 20; and by her parents. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to LaCrosse Parks & Rec – Swimming Pool or to the LaCrosse Fire Department EMS fund. On-line guest book is at www.corbeillfuneralhomes.com
