Lewis Loyd Gaiser, 94, lifelong inspirer and resident of the Palouse, passed away on June 21, 2011 while in the comfort of his loving home. Lewis was born on December 2, 1917 as one of nine siblings in Moscow, Idaho to Jacob and Elizabeth Gaiser. He was raised on a family ranch until the great depression when he became a member of the CCC in order to support his family. When the depression ended he returned to the Palouse to pursue his passion for farming. Lewis worked on a ranch for a couple years learning more about agriculture and farming land. Following his assistance on a friend's ranch he decided to open "Lewjoy Trucking". He ran his trucking company successfully until he found himself raising several children and seeking a more financially stable career. After thirteen years in the trucking industry Lewis gravitated back to his love for farming. He bought a ranch in St. John where he was able to raise and supply for the numerous children living under his roof. He became one of the Palouse's best ranchers and took great joy in his livestock, family, children, wife, and land. Up until last year Lewis took part in annual plowing bees and thrashing bees across the Palouse. He was also a popular parade icon in the Pendleton Round Up and elected as an official on the Whitman County Fairground Board. Lewis was a persistent man but never denied a single person in need. His love for horses, people and his ranch lead him to over half a century of service to agriculture and mankind. Lewis Loyd Gaiser is survived by his stunning wife of 53 years, Joyce Willene Gaiser, their three daughters, eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and countless other family members and close friends whom he adored. Lewis is predeceased by Jacob and Elizabeth Gaiser, seven out of nine of his siblings as well as his great grandson Chico Gonzales. The memorial service for Lewis Loyd Gaiser will be held at the Methodist Church in St. John Washington on Sunday June 26, 2011 at 2:00.
