Lorin Dean Morgan, husband and father, passed away early Sunday morning, October 25, 2026, at River’s Walk Assisted Living in Dayton, Washington. He was 92.
Lorin was born May 16, 1934, in Enterprise, Oregon. He was the oldest of three children of Orin and Ruby Morgan and though the family lived in several Oregon towns throughout his childhood, he always thought of Northeast Oregon as home. He graduated from Stayton-Union High School in 1953 and enlisted in the United States Army. While in Germany, Lorin suffered an active-duty injury and was medically discharged. He returned to Corvallis, Oregon and enrolled at Oregon State University where he met Donna Claire Langdon. The couple married on September 8, 1956 and he then transferred to the University of Oregon in Eugene where he completed his bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture. They began their family in Eugene, lived a few years in San Bernardino, California and finally settled in Bend, Oregon where they raised four children and Lorin worked as the county planner. They lived on a small country property and enjoyed many activities as a family that included camping, fishing, raising farm animals, and skiing. Lorin especially loved fishing. He and Donna were later divorced and Lorin moved to Dayton, Washington where he began work as a planner for Columbia County.
Lorin met Rosalie Oldenburg Harting who also worked at the county courthouse and soon he looked forward to seeing her when their paths crossed at work. Their relationship blossomed and they were married a short time later in the spring of 1986. They had over 40 years of happy marriage together which included time in Dayton and Sandpoint, Idaho before settling in Walla Walla where they both retired and really enjoyed their time working in their yard, on home projects, and traveling in their RV. Lorin was an excellent draftsman and carpenter and was often busy with home additions and remodeling. They loved spending time with their families and especially seeing the grandkids when they could. Lorin had some forested family property near Wallowa, Oregon that he called “Northwoods,” and the family had many memorable times and family reunions while camping there.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie, of Dayton; three children; Michael (Mary) Morgan of Phoenix, AZ., Linda(Leonard) Mayfield of Chattaroy, WA., and Russell (Dana) Morgan of La Grande, OR.; by a son-in-law, Collin Taylor in Battle Ground, WA.; by Rosalie’s children, Greg (Kim) Harting of Hermiston, OR., Brian (Karen) Harting of Chewelah, WA., Diana (DJ) Frame of Dayton, WA. and Stephanie (Cleve) Chisholm of Lewiston, Idaho. Lorin also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; his sister, Cheryl Knox of Junction City, OR.; and his brother, Albert Morgan of Boise, ID. He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Janet Morgan-Taylor and by a grandson, Taylor Frame.
A graveside service and burial will be held on November 14, 2026 at 12:00 at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla. Corbeill Funeral Home in Dayton is caring for the family. www.corbeillfuneralhomes.com
