IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mariam Helen
Mcguire
December 5, 1929 – November 3, 2025
Mariam Helen (Burnard) McGuire, 95, passed away on November 3, 2025, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Washington. Mariam was born on December 5, 1929, to John Earl and Leona Marie (Kenney) Burnard in Kirkland, Washington. She grew up in North Bend and Kirkland, Washington, living for a period at a mining camp.
In 1950, while visiting her sister Emma in Anchorage, Alaska, she met the love of her life, Arnold McGuire. In 1951 they married in North Bend, Washington. They purchased a farm in Thornton, Washington, where Arnold proceeded to build their dream home. They had 3 children, Leslie, Judy & Michael.
She loved to bake and cook, which came in handy during harvest season when she was cooking for a crew of hungry men! She was an avid gardener, maintaining a huge garden and canned many fruits and vegetables.
She loved and helped care for all animals on the farm, cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, dogs, cats, and a Shetland pony.
She was a very talented lady, crocheting and knitting gifts for family and friends. She was an amazing seamstress and quilter. She even tatted lace. Later in life, she took up painting and did some truly amazing work!
Arnold and Mariam spent many years traveling in their motorhome with family and friends. She loved to fish and explore. She was an avid rockhound, often polishing and faceting the stones she found.
After her children left home, Mariam & Arnold decided to sell the farm and move into Colfax, Washington, where Arnold took a job with the Colfax Grain Growers and Mariam took a job in the kitchen at Colfax Grade School. When Arnold passed a few years later, Mariam moved to Spokane, Washington to be closer to family.
Mariam is survived by her son, Leslie McGuire, daughter, Judy (McGuire) Neudorfer, son-in-law John Neudorfer, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leona, and Earl; husband Arnold; son Michael, great-grandson Brady and siblings Jack, Emma, and Harry.
A graveside service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts in her memory be made to St. John- Endicott Schools' Foundation Dollars for Scholars in honor of her great- grandson, Brady Pitts, at PO Box 411 St. John WA 99171.
Corbeill Funeral Home of Colfax is in charge of the arrangements.
