IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mark C
Rubin
March 12, 1940 – January 18, 2026
Mark C. Rubin, age 85, passed away on January 18, 2026 at Holy Family hospital in Spokane, Washington. He was born on March 12, 1940, in Colfax, Washington, to Alvin and Jeanette (Gilbert) Rubin. Funeral Services for Mark will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Onecho Bible Church. He will be laid to rest in the Onecho Cemetery.
Mark was born in Colfax and raised on the family farm near Onecho. The youngest of four siblings, he attended Colfax High School and graduated with the class of 1959. Following high school, Mark began working for John Schluneger, a partnership that lasted from his graduation until 1966 and continued in various ventures throughout his life.
Mark met the love of his life, Carol Haxton, at a Grange Hall dance. They were married on September 1, 1960, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in family, hard work, and faith. In 1966, Mark and Carol moved to the homestead, where they took over the family farm, working the land together until retiring in 2002. They were longtime, faithful members of Onecho Bible Church, where they found community, fellowship, and spiritual grounding.
They welcomed two children together: a daughter, Gwen, born in 1962, and a son, Jay, born in 1965. Mark was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who valued family above all else.
Deeply involved in agriculture, Mark was instrumental in the National Farmers Organization. He co-founded S&R Grain with John Schluneger and in the mid-1970s, helped establish the E&M Welding business. Through this venture, they patented a transport hitch for rod weeders, reflecting Mark's ingenuity and practical problem-solving skills.
Mark and Carol shared a love of travel and spent nearly 40 winters traveling south in their motorhome, visiting Arizona and California. They also enjoyed major trips and cruises together, including a memorable trip through the Panama Canal.
Mark will be remembered for his strong work ethic, innovative spirit, steadfast faith, love of the land, and deep devotion to his family and community. His legacy lives on in the farm he stewarded, the businesses he built, and the many lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carol; his two children, Gwen (Greg) Nolan and Jay (Kathy) Rubin, both of Colfax; five grandchildren, Coleman (Tavia) Williams, Jason Nolan, Andrew (Hanna) Nolan, Jared Ledbetter, and Bryan Rubin; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by two sisters; Barbara Steinbeck of Arizona, and Janice (Gerald) Mitchell of Colfax. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bill Rubin, and an older sister, Vivian, who passed away at birth.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Onecho Bible Church, the Onecho Cemetery, or to the Union Gospel Mission.
