Martha L. Keeney, 93, passed away on March 16, 2017 at the Henderson House in Colfax, WA. Martha, a longtime Albion, WA resident was born in 1923 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Cleon & Edythe (Perry) Scott. Martha grew up in Indianapolis where she graduated from high school and attended college for a time. She married Walter S. Johnson and in 1942, moved to Pullman, WA and later to a family dairy farm north of Spokane where the family operated a small dairy business. Martha and Walter returned to Pullman in 1960, were later divorced, and on June 23, 1964, Martha married Joe Keeney. They moved to Albion, WA where they made their home for many years. Martha worked at Washington State University in the admissions office and later as secretary to the Athletic Director. She later served as the City Clerk for the town of Albion until her retirement. Martha's family was very important to her; she loved having her kids and grandchildren come for visits, and she happily spent time with "adopted" daughter, Barb Smith and "adopted" grandchildren, Justin Smith and Jamie Castro. She enjoyed music and played both the piano and organ. Over the years, she played for church and Sunday school services as well as with a local Albion band. Martha enjoyed gardening and was active in the Albion Women's Club and the local Historical Society. She was a member of the Albion Community Church as well as an active member the Albion community. Martha is survived by her son Walt (Joyce) Johnson; her daughter Ruth (Rich) Westerbeck; a stepson Merle (Charlotte) Keeney; two stepdaughters Susan (Will) Wintermute & Lorri (Russell) Pace; her brother Walter (Nancy) Scott as well as nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Joe on November 11, 2016. A Celebration of Martha and Joe's lives will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Albion Community Church in Albion, WA. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements. Martha and Joe will be laid to rest at the Albion Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to the Albion Community Church.
