Mary Frances Dayton, retired Colfax nurse, passed away April 25, 2017 at the Whitman Hospital in Colfax. She was 79. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 13th, at 11:00 a.m. in the Colfax Cemetery with Reverend Don Moore officiating. Mary was born May 15, 1937 in Eureka, Kansas to Leo and Faye (Tannahill) Luna. She moved with her family to an area near Yakima, Washington when she was 7 years old. She grew up and attended school in Yakima and liked to play baseball at school. She married and had 2 children to raise when that marriage ended. Mary moved to Spokane and met Donald Dayton, Sr. They married at Dusty, Washington on August 5, 1961 and blended their families together at their Colfax home. They lived in Colfax for more than 50 years and Mary worked first at the St. Ignatius Hospital and then the new Whitman Hospital as an LPN. She retired after more than 33 years in 1999. She liked to go camping, loved bowling on leagues and visiting with family and friends. Mary and Don spent many winters in Yuma, Arizona where they enjoyed playing cards with friends, going to yard sales, and being as social as she was they enjoyed "Happy Hour". Mary is survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald Dayton, Sr., at their Colfax home; sons Mike (Julie) Longmire of Corvallis, OR., and Doug (Sharon) Dayton of Otis Orchards, WA.; her step-son Craig (Kathy) Dayton of Bow, WA.; 8 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Dayton, her step-son, Donald Dayton, Jr., 3 sisters and a brother all of Yakima, a niece and a nephew and by her parents.
